The study investigated the use of transdermal estradiol patches in the treatment of locally advanced prostate cancer. Published in the New England Journal of Medicine (Ahead of Print). The main findings include a comparison of this therapy with traditional androgen-deprivation methods. Transdermal patches release estradiol through the skin directly into the bloodstream. The study showed similar effectiveness in suppressing testosterone as injectable drugs. Patients had fewer cardiovascular events compared to standard treatment. The therapy was well tolerated with a lower incidence of cardiac side effects.
