Vasectomy is a safe and effective permanent method of contraception for men. The American Urological Association (AUA) issued updated guidelines in January 2026 that reflect patient changes and new discussion points. The guidelines summarize the current evidence on vasectomy, including indications, preoperative counseling and other aspects. They include an overview of the procedure and emphasize the need for future review as knowledge grows. Two urologists, one from a private practice, provided notes on how to navigate these instructions. The guidelines were published in the Journal of Urology as Part I.[2][3]
