For the first time, more American women are accessing telehealth abortions, according to data from the Guttmacher Institute. The total number of abortions in the U.S. remained essentially unchanged in 2025, at an estimated 1.126 million, up from 1.124 million in 2024. In 2024, about 154,000 women traveled from states with abortion bans to obtain care, but that number dropped to 142,000 in 2025. Number of women in states with bans who had access to abortion via telehealth, increased from 74,000 in 2024 to 25,200 in 2025. Almost four years ago, 25,200 women lost their constitutional right to an abortion in a US Supreme Court ruling. Guttmacher's estimates show no nationwide decline in abortions despite the restrictions.
