UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting has threatened to withdraw promised emergency training places for resident doctors in England if a planned strike goes ahead. The resident doctors have announced a six-day strike from April 7 to April 13 over the ongoing salary dispute with the government. The Medical Committee (RDC) rejected the government's latest offer as insufficient. The government previously promised to create 1,000 more specialist training places over three years. Streeting's threat has been criticized as using needed training places as a bargaining chip.
