The year 2025 has been a turbulent year in medicine and health research worldwide. The administration of US President Donald Trump has initiated attacks on equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) policies. There has been a wave of resignations and resignations in US agencies and the National Institutes of Health. The US withdrew from the WHO, with consequences for the research and academic publishing communities far beyond US borders. Research integrity issues continued in part due to paper mills and inappropriate creation of AI-generated content. This led to a series of article retractions in several journals around the world.
