In 2025, an outbreak of Sudan virus disease occurred in Uganda, a zoonotic disease caused by the Sudan strain of Ebola virus. The Sudan Ebola virus strain is among the most dangerous pathogens with high mortality rates. The disease is transmitted from infected animals to humans and can subsequently spread between humans through direct contact with blood or body fluids. Symptoms include fever, muscle pain, weakness, and in severe cases, hemorrhagic manifestations. Diagnosis is performed using laboratory tests that detect viral antigens or genetic material. Treatment is primarily supportive, focused on maintaining vital functions and electrolyte balance. Prevention includes avoiding contact with potential virus reservoirs and maintaining hygiene measures.
