An outbreak of the Bundibugyo virus (Orthoebolavirus bundibugyoense) is ongoing in the Democratic Republic of Congo. As of May 31, 2026, over 300 confirmed cases of infection have been reported. More than 40 deaths have also been recorded in connection with this epidemic. Virus transmission has been ongoing for several weeks. Confirmed cases have also appeared in urban centers. These cities include Kampala in Uganda and Goma in DR Congo. It is presumed that many undetected transmission chains also exist.
