The SOLSTICE study investigated the oral drug elecoglipron in adults with type 2 diabetes. Elecoglipron is a small molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist administered once daily. It was a multicentre, phase 2b, randomised, placebo-controlled clinical trial. The results showed that elecoglipron led to reductions in glycaemia, meaning blood sugar levels. The drug's safety and tolerability profile was consistent with the GLP-1 receptor agonist class. This profile was observed at a similar phase of drug development. The findings support the continued development of elecoglipron and its progression to phase 3 clinical trials. The aim is to provide a new treatment for people living with type 2 diabetes.
