The study examined how women prepare for pregnancy in terms of healthy behaviour. The research involved 430 pregnant women from Australia, of whom 72.7% had a planned pregnancy. Results showed that a woman's intention is the most important factor influencing her behaviour regarding exercise, healthy diet, and alcohol avoidance. Partner influence and perceived control had greater impact on behaviour change than opinions of healthcare professionals. Positive beliefs were associated with folate supplement use and smoking cessation. The study recommends that interventions aimed at changing behaviour before pregnancy should involve partners and address practical barriers while respecting women's autonomy.
