A new American study published in the journal Annals of Oncology analyzed data from more than 229,000 obese patients without diabetes and found that the use of GLP-1-based medications (semaglutide or tirzepatide) was associated with a 41% lower risk of developing obesity-related cancers. The most significant results appeared in endometrial cancer (58% risk reduction), multiple myeloma, pancreatic cancer, and colorectal carcinoma, where the risk decreased by more than 50%. However, scientists emphasize that the study does not prove causality and it remains unclear whether the lower cancer incidence is due to weight loss alone or also to other biological mechanisms, such as inflammation suppression or improved insulin sensitivity. The study was observational with a relatively short duration (approximately two years), so further long-term research is needed to confirm these findings.
