A Rutgers University study from 2026 found that GLP-1 based medications such as Ozempic and Wegovy may weaken the connection between impulsivity and violent behavior. The research analyzed data from 7,521 American adults, focusing on 821 people who had used GLP-1 medications at some point. Among current users, the link between impulsivity and violence was approximately 62 percent weaker than among former users. The connection between alcohol consumption and violence was approximately 52 percent weaker in current users. Lead researcher Daniel Semenza noted that the results are consistent with these medications working similarly to cognitive behavioral therapy. However, researchers cautioned that the study cannot prove direct causation and further longitudinal studies are needed.
