Hrozí nejhorší epidemie eboly v historii. Evropa napumpuje do Afriky miliardy

The European Union will support the fight against the Ebola epidemic in Congo and Uganda with 493 million euros (11.9 billion Czech crowns). The funds will be allocated for emergency aid, vaccine research, treatment, and health security measures. According to Jean Kaseya, director of the Africa CDC, the current epidemic in Congo could become the worst Ebola outbreak in history if critical gaps in response are not quickly addressed. Authorities are monitoring only approximately 12 percent of people who had contact with infected individuals, and there is also a shortage of teams for safe burials and protective equipment for healthcare workers. Congo has recorded over 800 cases of infection with the rare Bundibugyo strain, which has claimed 192 lives so far. The infection has also spread to Uganda, which reports 19 confirmed cases including two deaths.
