This correspondence responds to an editorial that highlighted the mid-term review and update of the Stroke Action Plan for Europe. This European plan has set ambitious goals to be achieved by the year 2030. Striving to achieve these ambitious goals in the management of stroke is extremely important. This is because stroke remains one of the leading causes of death and disability in Europe. Nevertheless, it is essential to recognize and address the bottlenecks that still exist within European health systems. These systemic deficiencies currently still substantially undermine the overall effectiveness of care for stroke patients.
