The study examined the impact of 24-hour movement behaviour on cardiovascular mortality in cancer survivors. A total of 6,158 participants from the UK Biobank wore accelerometers to measure physical activity. During a median follow-up of 8 years, 500 participants died (8.2%), with 118 deaths attributed to cardiovascular causes. Results showed that increased moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) was associated with lower cardiovascular mortality risk. Replacing 7 minutes of daily sedentary behaviour with physical activity reduced risk by 10%. Vigorous physical activity was most effective, requiring only 1–2 additional minutes daily. Adequate sleep duration was also associated with lower cardiovascular mortality risk. The study concludes that reallocating time to higher-intensity physical activity is the most effective way to reduce cardiovascular risk in cancer survivors.
