Case Report: Catheter-associated multidrug-resistant Leclercia adecarboxylata bloodstream infection in a colon tumor patient

This case report describes a catheter-associated bloodstream infection caused by multidrug-resistant Leclercia adecarboxylata in a colon tumor patient. The patient presented with high fever and chills. Initial empirical treatment with cefoperazone-sulbactam lasted for 4 days, but the fever persisted. Subsequently, bacterial cultures from peripheral blood and the catheter were positive for L. adecarboxylata. The treatment regimen was then changed to meropenem. Following this treatment, the patient's clinical symptoms improved, and the patient was discharged. Although L. adecarboxylata is generally considered a highly sensitive pathogen, it was multidrug-resistant in this study. It is recommended that the treatment of L. adecarboxylata should be based on antimicrobial sensitivity tests.
