Young people have difficulty reading time from classic analog clocks with hands. During a test at a secondary school in Hradec Králové, seven students attempted to read time from analog clocks and three out of seven failed to do so correctly. Teachers confirm this is a real problem in today's era when children constantly have digital devices with them. Reading an analog clock face requires a different type of information processing than a digital display, and children must simultaneously perceive the position of the hands and their relationship. This phenomenon is not only Czech but a global trend – a study by the Kentucky Academy of Science found that approximately ten percent of secondary school students never achieved the ability to read analog clocks without digital numbers. Experts emphasize that practicing reading analog clocks must occur not only at school but also at home and in public environments.
