HFCWO Vest Plus Mechanical Cough Assist Versus Cough Assist Alone on Respiratory Infections in ALS: a Pilot Trial

This pilot clinical trial investigated the impact of two different treatment methods on respiratory infections in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The researchers compared the efficacy of combining two devices versus using only one of them. Specifically, it involved a combination of a high-frequency chest wall oscillation (HFCWO) vest and a mechanical cough assist device. This combined therapy was compared with a treatment that utilized solely the mechanical cough assist device. The main objective was to monitor the occurrence and course of respiratory infections in patients with this severe neurodegenerative disease.
