More than 60 percent of cancer patients with lung cancer in the Czech Republic do not begin treatment within eight weeks of CT examination, which is the maximum timeframe established in studies. The Ministry of Health has therefore introduced new oncology care coordinators to accelerate diagnosis and treatment of patients. Coordinators are divided into three types: coordinator 1 guides the patient at the beginning of the disease and expedites diagnostics, coordinator 2 manages patient movement in comprehensive oncology centers, and coordinator 3 provides care after discharge from treatment. Regional doctors can activate coordinator 1 by pressing a red button when there is high suspicion of a tumor. The introduction of coordinators was approved during the reaccreditation of comprehensive oncology centers in summer 2025 with support from the ministry, the Czech Oncology Society, and patient organizations.
