The European Commission requested a scientific opinion from EFSA regarding the characterisation of the production strain and the safety of the feed additive monensin sodium (Elancoban® G200) for target species. This additive is intended for use as a coccidiostat. The request is a follow-up to the re-evaluation of monensin sodium. It is intended for chickens for fattening at a dose of 100–125 mg monensin sodium per kg of complete feed. It is also used for chickens reared for laying at a dose of 100–120 mg monensin sodium per kg of complete feed. EFSA's task is to assess the safety of this substance for the specified species.
