The Czech Ministry of Health is preparing an amendment to the law on healthcare digitization that introduces gradual obligations for physicians. From July 2027, electronic referrals for imaging examinations, rehabilitation, and consultations will be mandatory, followed by laboratory examinations from January 2028, and from 2029 physicians will be required to maintain medical documentation electronically. The goal of digitization is not merely to convert paper forms into digital format, but to create a secure environment for sharing structured health data among authorized healthcare professionals in accordance with the European Health Data Space. The ministry has invested approximately one billion crowns in digitization projects. Since 2018, physicians must use electronic prescriptions for medications, and since the beginning of this year they can issue electronic referrals. The EZKarta application allows patients to access vaccination data and examination results.
