Czech doctors will be required to keep medical documentation electronically from 2029. Electronic requests are being gradually introduced, with mandatory e-requests for imaging examinations, rehabilitation, and consultations from July 2027, and for laboratory tests six months later. The Czech Ministry of Health has invested approximately one billion crowns in healthcare digitization projects. The goal of electronic documentation is not only to convert paper forms into digital format, but to create a secure environment for sharing health data among authorized healthcare professionals. The Czech Republic is preparing for the unified European EHDS (European Health Data Space) system, which aims to enable secure health data sharing across the European Union and strengthen patient rights. Since 2018, electronic prescriptions for medications have been mandatory in the Czech Republic, and since the beginning of 2026, doctors have been issuing electronic requests, though not yet mandatorily.
