The study examined the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools among psychotherapists and other mental health professionals worldwide. The survey included 766 licensed professionals from 30 countries, of whom 54.6% (418 individuals) actively used at least one GenAI tool in their practice. ChatGPT was the most frequently used tool (84.7% of users). GenAI was most commonly used to assist with treatment planning (41.9%), manage administrative tasks (41.4%), and generate educational materials for clients (39.7%). Most users (82.8%) reported reduced work burden. However, only 18.1% of respondents received institutional support for AI use, and 81.1% had not received any professional training. Younger age and rural practice setting were associated with higher AI adoption. The research emphasizes the need for competency frameworks, regulatory clarity, and professional education.
