A dispute has arisen between home care agencies and general practitioners regarding nurse visits to patients at home. According to a new agreement, field nurses of general practitioners should receive new reimbursement rules. Home care agencies warn of uncontrolled spending of up to five billion crowns annually, while the General Health Insurance Company estimates actual costs at only tens of millions. General practitioners argue that a field nurse is not identical to home care and that nurses from practices have visited patients at home for twenty years. Practitioners expect this service to help detect problems earlier in patients who have difficulty visiting the office. The General Health Insurance Company estimates that only a few hundred practices would use this service in the first year. Both sides will continue negotiations after summer holidays to find a suitable reimbursement mechanism.
