Post-marketing oncology studies face challenges with poor patient engagement and prolonged timelines, increasing costs and delaying evidence generation. Patients from community healthcare facilities are often underrepresented, as these centers have limited resources compared to academic centers. Integration of electronic health records (EHR) with electronic data capture (EDC) platforms and automated workflows can significantly improve patient recruitment and retention in studies. A pilot project conducted at four independent community oncology centers in the US from April 2024 to March 2025 examined a study of patients with multiple myeloma treated with daratumumab. From 353,602 screened individuals, 287 eligible candidates were identified with a target enrollment of 70 participants. Technology solutions and centralized operations significantly improved efficiency and reduced burden on individual centers.
