The HLTH Europe 2026 conference, held in Amsterdam from June 15-18, focused on the potential of technologies to improve patient adherence to treatment. Attendees discussed how digital health apps and wearables can boost long-term patient engagement. The pharmaceutical industry is striving to enhance patient experiences and shift the power imbalance between patients and healthcare providers. Andrew Menzies-Gow from AstraZeneca emphasized the need for patients to be able to make decisions about their health. Marta Nowotarska from Novo Nordisk highlighted the importance of partnering with payers and healthcare systems in the context of health "consumerization." Artificial intelligence (AI) is considered a promising tool to bridge the adherence gap. Marten den Haring, CEO of Lirio, stated that AI can provide personalized support and adapt approaches based on dynamic patient needs, thereby helping maintain long-term adherence.
