The study analyzed cardiovascular diseases in Brazil during the period from 1996 to 2023 using data from the Brazilian Unified Health System. Acute myocardial infarction was the pathology with the highest number of deaths throughout the entire monitored period. Besides myocardial infarction, hypertensive diseases and heart failure were other significant causes of death and morbidity. The research showed that cardiovascular diseases represent a serious challenge for the Brazilian public health system due to the high number of deaths and progressive mortality rate. The study provides important data for formulating public health policies aimed at reducing the growing impact of these diseases.
