BIO 2026: Cell and gene therapy firms outline their use of AI in manufacturing

At the BIO International Convention 2026 in San Diego, cell and gene therapy companies presented their use of artificial intelligence in manufacturing. Kriya Therapeutics invested in an integrated manufacturing platform and accumulated approximately 100 million data points, which it uses to optimize processes and improve yield. Opus Genetics, with a team of 38-39 people, uses AI to analyze data and prepare for process performance qualification, making its small team more efficient. Epicrispr Biotechnologies, with 35 employees, implemented quality by design principles and uses AI to generate smarter experiments and reduce the number of required tests. Companies are leveraging AI primarily in vector design, data analysis, and optimization of manufacturing processes to address challenges associated with commercial-scale production.
