Europe maintains only nearly 25 percent of the share in pharmaceutical innovations, while the United States holds approximately 60 percent. Asia, particularly China, has become a major player in clinical drug trials and has already surpassed Europe. Europe has lost almost 60,000 patient positions in clinical trials over the past 10 to 12 years. In 2022, Asia conducted 98,000 clinical trials, in 2024 it was 128,000, and in 2025 more than 167,000 are expected. Despite Europe's weakening position, the Czech Republic maintains a growing trend with 486 clinical trials and approximately 17,500 patients in 2025, which is the highest number since 2015. The main reasons for the shift of pharmaceutical companies' attention to Asia are the speed of the approval process, lower complexity, and better system digitalization.
