Blind nasoenteric tube insertion using a pharmaco-mechanical synergy protocol in frail older adults with chronic wounds: a retrospective study

The study evaluated the safety and efficacy of a new protocol for blind nasoenteric tube insertion in 21 older patients with chronic wounds. The procedure was successful in 76.2% of cases (16 out of 21 patients) with a mean insertion time of 40 minutes and tube depth of 101 centimeters. No complications occurred during the procedure and vital signs remained stable. After seven days, nutritional status significantly improved, with increased levels of total protein and albumin (p < 0.05). Infection markers showed no statistically significant changes. Healthcare staff rapidly acquired the technique, with procedure time stabilizing at 30–50 minutes. The protocol appears to be a safe, effective, and economically accessible approach suitable for broader clinical implementation.
