The Supreme Court of the Czech Republic ruled that survivors of people who died in causal connection with COVID-19 vaccination have the right to compensation for emotional distress from the state. The ruling concerns a case of a man from Prague whose 77-year-old father died of pulmonary embolism shortly after receiving the third vaccine dose. The son demanded 250,000 crowns from the Ministry of Health for emotional suffering. The District and City courts in Prague rejected all claims, but the Supreme Court granted the appeal. The court also clarified that the right to compensation applies to voluntary vaccination as well, not just mandatory vaccination, since mandatory COVID-19 vaccination lasted only a very limited time and applied only to a limited group of the population. The District Court for Prague 2 will reconsider the case.
