France has recorded its first case of Ebola, confirmed in a doctor who returned from a humanitarian mission in Congo. The infection was detected in Paris, and the patient is in isolation, with authorities actively tracing his contacts. The French Ministry of Health confirmed that the risk to the wider European public is low. In Congo, over 270 people have died from Ebola five weeks after the epidemic was declared. The epidemic primarily affected Ituri province but has also spread to North and South Kivu and across the border into Uganda. Congolese authorities report 1094 confirmed cases and 277 deaths, while Uganda reports 20 cases and 2 fatalities. The current epidemic is caused by the Bundibugyo variant of the virus, for which there is currently no approved vaccine or specific treatment.
