[Newsdesk] New WHO prequalifications signal hope for malaria

The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced significant progress in the fight against malaria. In April 2026, WHO prequalified a new formulation of the drug artemether–lumefantrine. This formulation is specifically designed for infants. Additionally, three new rapid diagnostic tests were also prequalified. These steps represent significant hope for improving malaria prevention and treatment, especially among the most vulnerable groups. WHO prequalification ensures the quality, safety, and efficacy of these products. It is expected that these new tools will help reduce mortality and morbidity caused by malaria.
