Bacteria share proteins to survive antibiotics

Research published in the journal Science in June 2026 describes a mechanism by which bacteria share proteins to increase their resistance to antibiotics. Bacteria are capable of transferring proteins to each other that help them survive in environments with antibiotics. This protein-sharing process represents an important way bacteria enhance their ability to resist therapeutic drugs. The discovery of this mechanism may have significant impact on understanding the development of antibiotic resistance. The research was published in issue 6 of volume 392 of Science journal on pages 1345-1346.
