[Editorial] Cancer in young adults: out of the shadows?

Cancer in young adults represents a growing crisis that has long remained unnoticed. US Senator Edward Markey and his colleagues called on the National Institutes of Health to develop a national strategy to address the rising incidence of cancer in young adults. Although cancer remains primarily a disease of older people, a surprising increase in early-onset cancers is being observed. This trend should be at the center of attention for health communities worldwide. The problem is not new, but its visibility and recognition are increasing.
