Case Report: Opioid-sparing general anesthesia with bilateral quadratus lumborum block for cesarean delivery in a parturient with spinal deformity

The article describes a case of a 35-year-old pregnant woman with spinal deformity who underwent cesarean delivery under general anesthesia without opioids combined with bilateral quadratus lumborum block. The patient declined neuraxial anesthesia, which was contraindicated in her case. General anesthesia was administered using a multimodal approach that provided hypnosis, analgesia, muscle relaxation, and attenuation of the stress response. The anesthesia team performed thorough preoperative evaluation and multidisciplinary collaboration. The neonate showed no signs of opioid-related respiratory depression, with no low Apgar scores and no need for resuscitation after delivery. This case demonstrates a novel opioid-sparing anesthesia strategy for cesarean delivery.
