Association between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and the risk of bronchial asthma: a case–control study

The study examined the association between LDL cholesterol and the risk of bronchial asthma in 944 asthma patients and 1,580 control subjects. After propensity score matching, each group contained 1,043 participants. The analysis showed that elevated LDL cholesterol levels were independently associated with increased asthma risk (OR: 1.75). The risk was significantly higher in individuals younger than 60 years (OR: 2.61) compared to those 60 years and older (OR: 1.16). The relationship between LDL cholesterol and asthma was non-linear, with a marked increase in risk when LDL cholesterol exceeded 3.62 mmol/L. Gender and body mass index did not have significant effects on this association.
