Amgen contends with data breach, exposing patient information

Amgen has been hit by a cyberattack on its third-party operated cloud-based systems, compromising the company's proprietary data and protected patient health information. Amgen filed an 8-K form with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) disclosing that it discovered an incident where the privacy of some of its cloud-based data, including protected health information, was compromised. The company activated its cybersecurity response plan and took steps to contain the data breach. Amgen currently believes the breach has not impacted its products, manufacturing, or financial reporting systems. The company stated that the incident is not reasonably likely to have a material impact on its financial condition. This attack occurs while the future of Amgen's drug Tavneos (avacopan) for rare inflammatory blood vessel disease, which generated $459 million in 2025, remains uncertain. US and European regulators are considering revoking the drug's approval.
