Temporal trends in long-term relative survival of cutaneous verrucous carcinoma: a period analysis from a large-scale SEER-based cohort

Cutaneous verrucous carcinoma (CVC) is a rare, well-differentiated variant of squamous cell carcinoma characterized by slow progression and limited metastatic potential. This study analyzed long-term survival of 2,031 CVC patients from the U.S. SEER database during 2000–2019 using period analysis. In the most recent period (2015–2019), overall 3- and 5-year relative survival rates were 85.3% and 82.9%, respectively. Results were heterogeneous across demographic groups: male patients showed improving trends (5-year survival 87.6%), while female patients demonstrated declining trends (74.9%). White patients achieved the highest 5-year survival (84.8%), while Black patients had the lowest (65.9%). Rural patients had better outcomes (87.4%) compared to metropolitan residents (81.9%). Significant disparities in survival persisted across sex, race, age, and socioeconomic status.
