Exercise-Derived Hemodynamics and 6-Minute Walk Distance in Hypertension

The study examined the relationship between hemodynamic parameters measured during exercise and exercise capacity in 211 patients with hypertension. Using impedance cardiography, parameters such as maximum heart rate, cardiac output volume, and vascular resistance were continuously measured. Results showed that maximum heart rate had the strongest and most consistent association with exercise capacity, measured by the six-minute walk test. The distance walked in six minutes progressively increased with higher maximum heart rate. Age and male sex were also independently associated with exercise capacity. Researchers concluded that combining impedance cardiography with the six-minute walk test may be a simple and accessible approach for evaluating exercise capacity.
