Resolution of systemic inflammation in psoriasis following herring roe oil treatment: a post hoc analysis on inflammatory biomarkers in non-severe psoriatic patients

The study examined the effects of oral herring roe oil (HRO), a phospholipid-rich marine oil, on systemic inflammation in 60 patients with mild-to-moderate psoriasis over 26 weeks. Researchers measured inflammatory biomarkers including the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), systemic inflammation response index (SIRI), and other blood count indicators. Compared to placebo, HRO treatment resulted in significant reductions in SII, SIRI, and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio at week 26, with positive trends visible as early as week 12. Patients with elevated baseline inflammatory indices showed the greatest reduction in systemic inflammation. The results suggest that HRO may be useful in reducing systemic inflammation in psoriasis and that baseline SII may help predict treatment response.
