The article compares the situation in medicine with the automotive industry before Tesla's arrival, which changed the rules of the game. In treating type 2 diabetes, we have made progress in pharmacotherapy, but the disease continues to spread rapidly – affecting 37 million people in the USA. The main problem is that diabetes is treated primarily by adjusting blood sugar levels, rather than addressing the root cause – insulin resistance caused by fat accumulation in the liver and muscle cells. Clinical studies show that targeted dietary interventions focused on plant-based foods reduce this ectopic fat and in many cases lead to remission of type 2 diabetes. However, the healthcare system is optimized for incremental improvement and prioritizes pharmacotherapy over prevention and lifestyle support. The article emphasizes that change is necessary and possible, as patients achieve results previously considered unrealistic when given clear, evidence-based instructions and structured support.
