Education Leadership in Accreditation Reform—Reply

This article is a reply to previous responses concerning education leadership in accreditation reform. The authors agree that accreditation reform should focus on outcomes and be stewarded by physicians and educators. The discussion on Graduate Medical Education (GME) highlights persistent differences and siloed approaches between GME and undergraduate medical education. Key obstacles include various regulatory bodies, privacy concerns, and data-definition challenges that impede meaningful data sharing. The authors emphasize that these obstacles must be overcome and should be prioritized in the current environment. It is also important that institutional accreditation and individual licensing or certification be considered within the full complexity of the physician workforce. The current oversight approach is too fragmented and requires more comprehensive consideration.
