Surgical palliative care: A multidisciplinary perspective on where we stand and how we need to evolve

Surgical palliative care (SPC) integrates the principles of symptom-based care and relief of suffering into traditional surgical practice. The article presents perspectives from a bedside nurse, a surgical critical care fellow, and a surgical oncologist. The authors identify natural opportunities to incorporate these principles into surgical practice. They discuss various models for applying palliative care in surgery. The goal is to promote surgical palliative care as a standard in surgical practice. The article emphasizes how and when SPC can be best practiced in clinical settings.
