Association between pregnancy cumulative glycemic exposure and postpartum glucose metabolism outcomes at 4–7 years: a cohort study

The study examined the association between cumulative glycemic exposure (CGE) during pregnancy and glucose metabolism abnormality (GMA) at 4–7 years postpartum in 120 pregnant women. Results showed that higher CGE was associated with increased GMA incidence: 10.0% in the first tertile, 35.0% in the second tertile, and 65.0% in the third tertile. Each unit increase in CGE independently increased GMA risk (odds ratio = 1.040). Compared with the first tertile, GMA risk was 3.85-fold higher in the second tertile and 15.82-fold higher in the third tertile. The combined model of CGE and pre-pregnancy body mass index provided the best prediction with sensitivity of 85.5% and specificity of 79.1%. The study concluded that CGE during pregnancy is an independent predictor of postpartum glucose metabolism abnormality.
