The study investigated the prediction of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) after prostate surgery in older patients. Researchers analyzed data from 420 patients (294 in the model development group and 126 in internal validation) and found that DVT occurred in 11.19% of patients (47 out of 420). A model combining preoperative D-dimer with geriatric factors (serum albumin, ability to perform daily activities, and mental status) achieved accuracy with an AUC of 0.750. Compared to a model based on D-dimer alone, it showed improvement in predictive value. At a threshold of 0.20, the model had sensitivity of 57.1% and specificity of 91.1%. The authors emphasize that the results are preliminary and require further prospective validation before clinical implementation.
