Sepsis is a life-threatening condition triggered by infection and dysregulated immune response, often leading to multiorgan failure. Early initiation of appropriate therapy significantly improves patient survival and reduces mortality. A research team developed an interoperable computerized clinical decision support system capable of detecting systemic inflammation and various sepsis classifications (bacterial/viral, suspected/proven, on admission/acquired in intensive care) in pediatric patients based on routine clinical data analysis. The system was tested on a retrospective dataset of 4,655 pediatric patients. Results demonstrated sensitivity of 96.9% and specificity of 99.1% compared to expert clinical assessment. The system detected 4,342 episodes of inflammation, of which 1,723 were classified as sepsis. Such a system can effectively support clinical decision-making and patient monitoring.
