Cardiovascular diseases caused the death of 19.1 million people in 2023. This represents nearly one in three deaths worldwide, and the annual number of victims is still rising. Despite investments that have improved outcomes for coronary heart disease, heart failure, and hypertension, this progress is uneven. More than 600 million people live with cardiovascular diseases. An estimated 100 million of them, approximately one in six, suffer from conditions that are readily treatable in high-income countries. However, in other parts of the world, these diseases still kill children and young adults.
