Germany approved a law on stabilizing insurance contribution rates in the statutory health insurance system aimed at saving billions of euros in healthcare. From January 1, 2027, general practitioners and psychotherapists will face an average income loss of 3,629 euros annually, while specialists will lose approximately 30,000 euros per year. The savings package plans to achieve 550 million euros in annual savings for general practitioners and 1.5 billion euros annually for specialists. Measures include eliminating payments beyond the budget, introducing electronic health records, and abolishing hygiene allowances. However, German public debate suggests the savings package may be insufficient, as healthcare expenditures are growing faster than originally anticipated.
