Czech pharmacies received an additional 6,000 packages of tamoxifen-based medication for breast cancer treatment, which has been in short supply on the market. According to the director of the State Institute for Drug Control, this shipment covers two-month treatment for 1,250 patients. The Ministry of Health introduced extraordinary measures to regulate consumption, including limiting prescription volumes for doctors and distributing medications in pharmacies according to actual patient needs instead of selling complete packages. Pharmacists can open packages and dispense the exact amount of medication prescribed by doctors in blister packs. The ministry is negotiating with manufacturers and European partners for additional supplies and has also requested medication through the EU solidarity mechanism. Tamoxifen is a synthetic antiestrogen that blocks the effects of estrogen hormones in cells.
