Quantifying User Engagement with the Helpilepsy Seizure Diary

Seizure diaries are an important source of information in epilepsy management, but patient engagement with them is often irregular. A research team created a multidimensional metric to measure patient engagement with the Helpilepsy application. Using clustering analysis, they identified three user groups: low, medium, and highly engaged. Highly engaged users were typically diagnosed at an older age, had epilepsy for longer, and used more medications including higher doses of anti-seizure drugs. The research showed that engagement is not based solely on seizure uploads, but also on completing other application features. Recommendations for e-diary development include greater attention to patients newly diagnosed with epilepsy during the onboarding phase.
